Chullpi Restaurant

"A great restaurant with pleasant cozy atmosphere and amazing food. We got there about 4:30 pm and several tables were occupied, by the time we left, it started to get really busy. Guillermina was taking care of us and she was doing an amazing job, considering that she was by herself taking the orders, making drinks, bringing checks and taking the payments. Please be patient, if there is only one person in the entire restaurant who is greeting and taking care of the guests. It may take longer to get your food, but I promise, it is worth it. Also, just something I noticed. When you order an appetizer and the main course, everything is brought out to you at the same time. My guess is that it is part of the traditional way of serving food here in Peru. I caught on after the second time eating out, so it would make sense to let your server know to bring the dishes out as they are ready, so you don't get all your food at once. We ordered Chupe de Quinua - one of the best soups I ever had. It was rich in flavor and very hearty. The combination of veggies, chicken and cheese went together so well, it was complementing each other. I highly recommend it. Then we got Alpaca en Salsa Anticuchera. It was my first time trying alpaca, and to be honest I was not too impressed with it. We ordered medium rare, but it came out more like medium-well, so perhaps it was a bit overcooked. The flavor was very mild and the sauce was good. Also mashed potatoes were very creamy and runny, not what we are used to, but very tasty and I noticed it being prepared in the same way in several restaurants, so maybe it is a common way of cooking it here. I will give the alpaca another try. Lomo saldato was excellent. That was definitely cooked medium rare, as we ordered and the huancaina sauce was fantastic. The fettuccini were perfectly al dente and the veggies added a lovely contrast. It was very different from what we get in the US. Here the dish had much more flavor and less salt. It was a wonderful culinary delight! We drank pisco sour and chicha morada, as we try in Peru, since these are the staples of the drinks. Overall, I was very happy with our meal, service and food presentation, which was beautiful (just look at the photos). I highly recommend this restaurant and would like to return to try more dishes."
