The highlight, of course, was our private tour to the Rainbow Mountains of Palccoyo. We were picked up very early in the morning by our driver, Elvis, and our guide, Carlos. The van was in excellent condition—comfortable and well-maintained—which made the long drive much more pleasant. Since it was a private tour, we could even catch some extra sleep on the way to our first stop. Our first break was at Colca Buffet Restaurant, where we enjoyed a wide variety of delicious breakfast options, fresh fruits, and plenty of coca and muña tea to help with the altitude. From there, the real adventure began as we left the paved road and continued on a rocky dirt path leading up to the mountains. A little tip: bring a neck pillow! The bumpy ride can be tough on your neck, but the stunning scenery made up for it. We passed through picturesque landscapes with endless potato terraces and herds of alpacas and llamas. Carlos did an amazing job explaining the different crops, plants, and animals we encountered along the way, making the journey even more interesting. Once we arrived at the Palccoyo Rainbow Mountains, the breathtaking views were well worth the effort. If you’re not used to high altitudes, be prepared—you might need oxygen shots! Thankfully, Carlos was always prepared with an oxygen tank, just in case. On the way back, we made a quick detour to Circuito los Tres Puentes, which was also a beautiful and interesting stop. Then, we returned to Colca Buffet Restaurant for a delicious lunch before heading back to Cusco. All in all, this was a five-star experience, and we are so glad we chose Inca Highland. "Booked a private tour to Humantay Lake. They were the most reasonably priced tour company quoted. So happy to have booked with them because we had such a wonderful experience. Very responsive communication through their WhatsApp chat. We were picked up right on time from our hotel in a new and comfortable SUV. Our driver was professional and safe. Kaiser our guide was fantastic! He taught us more about Peruvian culture, history, and nature. Above all they both made sure it was an enjoyable experience for everyone. "Affordable way to get to Palcoyo mountains. The bus was uncomfortable, guide not helpful or informative about anything, and food was not good. Communication was very minimal before the trip. We had to message multiple times the evening before our 4:30am pickup to confirm our time. Not ideal. Make sure to bring own snacks, as well as toilet paper if you have to use the bathroom at all during the trip. Overall, it was a very minimal offering by the tour company. I would not book with them again."
